Everyone is intersted in this topic: What is the secret to get faster in the long term? We purposely use the wording "long term" because you can only improve if you are able practice the skills you learned in the short term. You might have experienced this by yourself: On some tracks you can easily finish in top positions while you can't keep up with the same opponents just a week later. This short article will tell you what is imporant to sustainably improve your lap times.

  • The most commonly made assumption still is how big the difference between a good and a bad setup is. Anyone who has ever dealt with a certain car setup will know that with a well-adjusted car, you can sometimes find a second or even more. Since iRacing setups on sale started to become popular you might feel this difference very quickly. However, at a certain point even the best setup will not help as the driving skills are more important in the end. You can have the perfect setting for the car - if you do not drive fast enough you will be beaten by other drivers who have worse setups.

  • Take advantage of the track! It is very common that drivers do not use the entire track width and thus lose time. It is important that you drive to the limit of the track during braking and exiting a corner. A larger turning radius means you can have a higher speed at the apex - and speed <=> lap time.

  • Experiment! Always driving in the same way might help you to become more consistent but you also run the risk of never being able to improve your raw pace. So the next time you practice, try different lines, braking points and also try to increase your cornering speed slightly. With the delta bar enabled, you directly can see what makes you faster and what slowes you down.

What's the advantage of a good setup if you do not know how to load it? Although many people can easily anwer the initial question, we still want to make it as easy as possible for new drivers on iRacing. Just read along this little text if you want to know how you can drive with setups made by us.

A setup file always has the extension ".sto", so you can easily see that you can use this file to load a setup in case you should get confused with all the different file endings you get on iRacing.

Let's get back to the initial question: To download a setup or any other file from this page, all you have to do is to click on the respective button on the current week page of any car/series package found on this website. The button looks like this:
Setup File

The download should be very fast because the file is very small. You will then find the file in your download folder on your PC or directly in your browser. As soon as you have this file you can start moving it to where it belongs.

Basically, you will find all the important iRacing folders in your documents folder. Navigate to "iRacing" until you see the "setups" folder. The next step is to find the corresponding car folder (a Mercedes setup can only be opened if you have it in the matching folder), so make  sure that you have always selected the right car when you paste your setup.

You can also create your own folders within each iRacing directory - this might help you with not losing the overview. For example: If you want to sort the setups by the different tracks, you can simply create folders with the track names to then quickly find your setup for it.

The Pure Driving School is a help-platform for drivers on the iRacing service. This website is run by the best drivers of the Pure Racing Team - one of the most successful sim racing teams.
With many years of experience and multiple victories over the best teams and drivers in the world, we proudly can say that.

The idea of running a virtual racing school came about two years ago. We received various requests from a lot of drivers who asked for setups as well as general help. At this time, we have also answered such requests but in the course of time we have published an overview of personal coaching offers on our team homepage.

While Maximilian Benecke initially offered these coaching sessions alone, we received more than 100 inquiries in a relatively short period of just about one year - and the trend went upwards. Just before the release of this new website, we enlarged our Pure Driving School Team so that we were able to satisfy the demand.

Of course, there is no promise of success, but it should be mentioned that so far there was no driver who was dissatisfied with his coaching he got from us. After more than a year of experience, we know exactly what our customers want and need.

In addition to personal coaching sessions we still didn't offer features like car setups, videos, lap or telemetry files. With the beginning of the year 2018, we set ourselves the goal to build this website to offer personal coaching sessions together with all these additional features. It is a completely self-built site - this was very important for us because it was the only way to make this page as user-friendly as possible.
